David Knotts was born in West Sussex in 1972. He began his piano and composition studies at the Royal Academy of Music and continued at King’s College, Cambridge, where he studied with Robin Holloway. After graduating in 1993 with a first, David Knotts went on to study with Robert Saxton at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Having completed further postgraduate study with Martin Butler, David Knotts was awarded a doctorate in composition by the University of Sussex in 2004.
